In 2020, TV presenter Dan Walker was listening to a charity auction and a money can’t buy prize. The bidding started at £1 but quickly went up within minutes to £1.5m, the £1 bidder had no chance.
This got Dan thinking of ways £1 could go a long way and, having spoken to some of his friends, the idea of The Sheffield 1000 was born.
The concept is 1000 people each donate £1 a week and all that money goes directly to supporting local charities and good causes, with a £1000 donation being made every week of the year.
